In a global marketplace with locally controlled school systems we often wonder how our own children measure up in their education. Seeking to provide our young people with competitive edge to open doors of opportunity, it can be difficult to assess where they stand and in what directions they may need support. Learning Express Library, available through our Cass County Library is a resource worth checking out for learners ranging from fourth grade to adult.
Once you have accessed the free subscription, you can download diagnostic tests and practice in math, reading, writing, and social studies. The tests pinpoint specific strengths and weaknesses within each field, and serve as indicators to performance on the California Achievement Test, FCAT, STARR, SAT, PSAT, GED, and college entrance exams, among others. The tests themselves are instructional tools. Results are given in categories, but you can also examine each question and response and receive explanations of what caused each particular choice to be correct or incorrect.
With the information from the diagnostic tests it is possible to plan the stops needed on this educational journey by signing in to courses divided into categories. Math courses include number concepts, algebra, data and probability, and measurement. In reading there are courses in comprehension, grammar, and spelling. These are a few of the subcategories available, intended to entice you to check out all the features, which you can use to fit individual needs and strengths. The reading passages are high-interest topics, and math lessons approach a concept from many varied applications.
Online learning has many advantages. Students can back up to lower levels to master concepts without the stigma attached, and accelerate to higher levels at their own pace. It allows the learner to review and to monitor progress, and is doubly effective with adult guidance. Kids learn the can engineer their own success. Whether you are home-schooling or supporting your students in public education, come aboard the Learning Express. Come to your favorite Cass County Library and ask your friendly librarians to help you sign up so you can access the courses at home and get on track for quality education.
